Experimenting

We actually did this during Christmas break but I never got a chance to share them here. Abigail got a cool chemistry set for Christmas from her Aunt Liza and Uncle Nicholas.

The first experiment we did was making a "rainbow" volcano. It was not really a rainbow...but the pink, purple and blue colors were really pretty and Abigail love making explosion after explosion.

Icecream in a Bag

One of the cool books Abigail got for Christmas is Ancient Science. It is a kids world history book that has simple and some not so simple science activities in it for kids. So far everyone we have tried Ab has loved.

Today was no different. Today we made Ice Cream in a Bag. Or at least we tried to. It was closer to Milkshakes in a bag. I messed up the recipe a bit and the bigger bag broke before the 5 minutes were up but it was yummy none the less. Even with the bag breaking and our "experiment" not working perfectly If you want to try it you can find the recipe by googling "ice cream in a bag"

drawing this is. I am going to keep publishing as much of Abigails art and writing as I can right now, because I know this period of prolific art will be ending soon. I love when she is willing to put anything down on paper so I am going to share as much as possible while it lasts.

oh and if you cannot figure it out it is a person with rosie cheeks.

A Great Day!!

Today Matthew got a Kidney. To read his full story click here. In support of his Kidney transplant and to help spread awareness for Kidney transplants our entire family wore green today...not Abigail's favorite colors. I had to explain to her that Baby Matthew had to get a new kidney because his old ones were not working- and that when he got his kidney he would be able to pee-pee. Potty talk is very big at our house so it was a very successful explanation!

This evening we were driving back from ballet class and Abigail said out of the back seat
"Mom I need to wear pink tomorrow because my biggest baby is going to get a new brain cause she cant think and her new brain will make her able to think"

Brought a smile to my day!

The year of Art?

Will 2010 be the year of Art in our house? I think so. Abigail has been drawing non-stop since New Years and it is fun to watch her come up with her drawings. I can tell they are studying different types of weather in preschool because the background of her picture is a tornado- complete with green sky and gray clouds. If you stand on one foot, hold your head sideways and close one eye you can almost see the tornado funnel that she made.

I put a closeup of her person below. It is a first for her. Her artwork is getting to be more and more detailed. Check out the face. She added eye lashes and more details to the eyes. The outfit is colored in and she even added some color in the grass that is supposed to be a little fairy.

and since it is never too early to learn to bank Abigail has been practicing her withdrawal slips Either that or her grandmother was trying to keep her somewhat still at the bank today. :) She was sooo proud that she wrote mama by herselft for the first time. She made me close my eyes when I got home just to show me! I love that she is starting to really fall in love with written language.

and some more

Abigail came home with the cutest collage from school today. They are doing /q/ this week and this is her interpretation of a queen. I love when she does this collage type work. It portrays her personality so well. And yes that is her handwriting!

Below is the owl she made right before Christmas Break. Again I think it is a great way to show off Abigail's love for art and color and faces.

Some art for you

Abigail has discovered the joys of the whiteboard. To be more specific, she has discovered that any mistakes that are made, in her opinion, on the whiteboard can be easily corrected. There seems to be less pressure with drawing on the whiteboard then in paper and pencil and she let her creativity shine tonight. She was even willing to let me sneak in a few pictures :)
