It's Done!!

Well the painting and decorating is done at least!! The mattress is ordered and will be here on Thursday and then Abigail will be sleeping in her first "real bed". Of course this is just in time for us to go out of town for a month...but oh well.

Now that it is built I am sort've worried about the ladder. Not her going up it, but coming back down. I forsee a few mornings of crying before she figures out that she can get out of bed herself.

I am going to get a carpet and some more pillows for the underneath and make it sort've like a reading nook. If anyone has some old bean bag chairs just laying around let us know and we will take them off your hands. I also still need to finish the curtain for the puppett theater...so expect at least one more "It's done" post..but for tonight the bed, and I, are done!

Off to cleap up the tarp and all the leftover paint so my kid can play in her room (and not mine) tomorrow!

marshmallow test

The Marshmallow Test:

The marshmallow experiment is a famous test of this concept conducted by Walter Mischel In the 1960s, a group of four-year olds were given a marshmallow and promised another, only if they could wait 20 minutes before eating the first one. Some children could wait and others could not. The researchers then followed the progress of each child into adolescence, and demonstrated that those with the ability to wait were better adjusted and more dependable (determined via surveys of their parents and teachers), and scored an average of 210 points higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.[2]

Yesterday I tried the marshmallow test on Abigail. I told her that she could have 1 marshmallow but if she could wait 15 minutes she could eat two...Her response..."If I wait till after my show can I have five?"

Fun in the sun and a sneak peek

Today was one of those special weather days that you can only find at the beach. It was raining in most of town this afternoon, but luckily for us not where we were playing. So after a week of cold wet weather Abigail got to enjoy a day of water play with her friends.

Unfortunately for her she has an unprepared mama who assumed since it was raining where I live it would be raining at the play date ten minutes away...dumb I know.

On another note Abigail's new bed is ALMOST done. It has been a hectic week here and I did not get to work on it as much as I wanted to, especially since Abigail hates the sound of the drill and will only "let" me work after she is in bed. Hopefully by this time next week the bed will be finished, Abigail will be sleeping in it and the and all the tools will be packed up for my next big project.

Here is a sneak peek of what is done so far.

My life is ruled by batteries

This post has nothing to do with Abigail. In fact, she is sound asleep waking only to cough every few hours and I have a Friday evening to do whatever I want. Well, what I really want to do is finish her bed and I did get some of the puppet theater up...but then the battery to the drill died. So I decide to catch up with some friends and go to use my phone...but nope that battery is dead too. Send some email?? Nope, laptop battery is dead also...I am writing thsi from the (Gasp!) PC. SO I am giving up on technology. Everythign is plugged in to charge and I am about to go lay down with a good book...hope everyone has a great weekend!

Lifelong Friends

Abigail's friend Meredith came to visit this weekend. These girls play amazingly well together. They can go 3 months without seeing each other and pick up like it is has only been days. Even more amazing they can (when well rested) play for hours without ever needing adult interference!

A lot of pictures were taken this weekend, Meredith's mom is a photographer, but this one is my favorite of the two of them.

I know they are only 2 and 3 but sometimes when I look at them together I can see them at 6, at 12, at 16 , even going off to college. They have that special type of friendship that can last a lifetime.
